Account Disablement Concerns

We're seeing more and more big name developers getting disabled as of late. No one wants to tell us what they got disabled for, but then again, it seems that the majority of them simply don't know the reasoning.

IMVU's Terms of Service reads "If you violate these Terms, IMVU may terminate and/or suspend your access to this Site without notice. IMVU prefers to advise you of your inappropriate behavior and to recommend any necessary corrective action. However, certain violations of these Terms, as determined by IMVU, may result in immediate termination of your access to this Site. IMVU has the right to terminate any password-restricted account for any reason."

And for those of you who don't want to read all of that jargon - it basically says if you screw up, IMVU can disable your account without telling you. That's rather unfortunate, because most accounts seem to be disabled due to a simple misunderstanding. On a more personal note, my account was disabled several months ago for something as basic as a home page sticker covering the Report link. My computer showed the sticker below the link, while IMVU saw something different. A simple e-mail to about 5 staff members (which you aren't supposed to do) had my account returned in under 8 hours. Simple misunderstanding. I moved the sticker far, far away and the world was at peace once again.

But what about members of the community who don't know a bunch of staff e-mails? What about all of the people who just aren't buddy-buddy with staff members? They are told to file help tickets - something that can take days and in some cases, weeks (or more) to get an answer to. This has become a great concern within the developing community especially. Some say that it's IMVU's way of making the developer feel that their account, the amount of time and money invested is simply worthless.

Senior Community Manager, Jamidiaz has addressed these concerns publicly and suggests that if you "adhere to the ToS and VGP and you shouldn't have anything to worry about." We beg to differ Jami. Too often are we punished for our lack of understanding in the Virtual Goods Policy and unless you have a lawyer, it's unlikely you understand the jargon of the Terms Of Service either. Quite frankly, most of us wonder if IMVU and its staff have a clear understanding of either one as well.
